Renishaw's QC10 ballbar is a linear displacement sensor based tool that provides a simple, rapid check of a CNC machine tool's positioning performance to recognised international standards (e.g. ISO, ASME etc)

The QC10 is quick and simple to use, providing a powerful analysis and allowing users to benchmark and track the performance of their machines and to quickly diagnose problems that require maintenance.

It increases process efficiency and company competitiveness and is considered vital equipment by most leading machine tool OEMs, their distributors and independent calibration service providers. The purchase costs are often recovered in months, sometimes even on its first job.

What is ballbar?

Branding image - man in blue coatThe Renishaw QC10 ballbar system consists of a calibrated sensor within a telescopic ball-ended bar, plus a unique mounting and centration system. It is not to be confused with the fixed length ballbars used for CMM (coordinate measuring machine) calibration.

A QC10 ballbar test involves asking the machine to scribe a circular arc or circle. Small deviations in the radius of this movement are measured by a transducer in the ballbar and captured by the software (via a PC interface).From the data supplied  the system's software automatically diagnoses a range of machine geometry and motion errors, presenting these in graphical and tabular format.
