RenDx Carbaplex assay
The RenDx Carbaplex assay will provide a rapid diagnostic test for the most prevalent families of carbapenemase genes, facilitating appropriate management of infected patients while allowing prompt deployment of infection control measures.
Infections caused by multidrug resistant bacteria are a global threat to public health and have been associated with high mortality rates among those patients receiving long term acute care. Of particular concern are the carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriaceae, organisms resistant to the carbapenem class of antibiotics, often considered the last resort in treatment of many bacterial infections. Such organisms can be difficult to eliminate, with rapid transmission and numerous outbreaks reported in healthcare settings. The reduction in available treatment options associated with these infections establishes the need for fast, reliable testing of at-risk patients prior to admission, to support appropriate patient management and provide information for infection prevention and control.
The RenDx Carbaplex assay will provide a PCR based diagnostic test for the most prevalent families of carbapenemase genes. The assay will detect and differentiate KPC, NDM, VIM, IMP-1 and OXA-48 like targets, detecting nucleic acid extracted directly from rectal swab samples. The rapid, reliable detection provided by the unique RenDx detection system has the potential to aid earlier diagnosis, facilitating appropriate patient management of colonised patients while allowing prompt deployment of infection prevention and control methods.
