GML assists in 3D offset tool path generation
On-machine component inspection offers significant benefits to users. It makes adaptive machining possible by providing process feedback to minimise variation. The key factor here, of course, is in the generation of an accurate tool path for in-cycle part measurement.
The GML is being extensively used here to solve the problem of creating complex 3D tool paths. Through the generation of realistic test data using the mathematics and geometry routines available in the GML, as well as use of the various analysis functions available on NURBS curves and surfaces, the development of 3D offset add-ins has been significantly simplified allowing toolpaths to be created and segmented according to an individual machine tool manufacturer's preferred specifications.
