neuro | guide™

Electrode Introducer KitThe neuro | guide™ electrode introducer kit allows verification of expected Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) electrode position relative to targeted anatomy using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

What is the neuro | guide™?

The neuro | guide™ kit comprises accessories that can be used when stereotactically implanting DBS electrodes in to the brain. DBS is an accepted therapy for the treatment of the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and Essential Tremor. Research and clinical trials are currently being conducted to understand whether it is also a valuable treatment for Epilepsy, Depression and other movement or intractable psychological disorders.

What is the neuro | guide™ used for?

The Deep Brain Stimulation electrodes are intended for implant in to specific volumes of the brain. These target sites can be identified for each patient using MRI. Further target position verification is necessary to reduce the effects of brain shift on placement accuracy. Traditionally the target position is electrophysiologically verified using micro electrodes that are used to record the neural firing patterns of the anatomy of which they are implanted into. Although this has been proven to improve accuracy of placement relative to the target anatomy, it often requires more than one trajectory through the approximate target volume. The higher the number of trajectories taken, the longer the surgery will take, and therefore the higher the risks of causing haemorrhage.

How does the neuro | guide™ work?

The neuro | guide™ kit is designed to allow verification of the expected electrode position relative to the targeted anatomy using MRI. Once the target has been initially identified using MRI the Guide Tubes included in the neuro | guide™ kit can be stereotactically implanted to a position where the distal end is just short of the targeted site, the radio opaque Stylette can then be implanted to simulate the likely position of an implanted electrode. The position of the Stylette can then be identified relative to the targeted anatomy using MRI, and if the positional accuracy is satisfactory then the Stylette can be removed and the electrode placed in the same position using the Guide Tube as a conduit.

CE Marking

The neuro | guide™ kit is a CE marked device.
