ML10 system components

ML10 Laser applicationAs well as the ML10 Gold Standard laser unit and EC10 Gold Standard compensator, the ML10 is also available in two alternative configurations:

  • the ML10X long range laser system
  • the ML10Q with quadrature output signals*

Always discuss your exact requirements with your local Renishaw office to ensure the correct system configuration.

ML10 Gold Standard laser

ML10The single frequency laser contains sophisticated electronics for stabilisation and to interpolate and count the interference fringes.

The ML10 uses a laser source with a wavelength that is traceable back to national and international standards. As the system uses interferometry as the basis for all of its measurement options (not just linear), you can have confidence in the accuracy of all your measurements.

Each ML10 kit includes:

  • ML10 laser measurement head
  • Calibration certificate
  • Power cable
  • Data link cable

A separate interface is required to connect to your PC (see DX10 interface in Accessories section) plus appropriate software (Laser10 or QuickView™ are our standard packages).

Whilst the in-built power supply is auto-sensing, labelling requirements and options for long range (80 m) and quadrature signal output, means you should check with your local Renishaw office before ordering.

ML10X long range laser system

Long range measurement kit

The ML10X enables linear measurements to be taken at up to 80 m (see specification sheets for maximum range of other measurement options). ML10X has all the features of the ML10 Gold Standard but with enhanced return signal strength and a special long range shutter to attenuate the signal for shorter range measurements. The ML10X can also be used where signal attenuation is a particular problem (when using multiple optics) and allows greater flexibility in optical alignment.

Note that when using the laser for long range measurement, the use of the long range accessory kit (large retroreflector and periscope) is required.

ML10Q quadrature output laser system

Quadrature output laserWhere laser accuracy is required as an input to downstream signal analysis or processing (as is often the case in fixed test rigs or laboratory work), then the ML10Q can provide an answer. In addition to the standard Renishaw data link, a digital RS422 quadrature output is provided with a connector kit for the laser end of the signal cable with full specifications and instructions for wiring to provide either 10 nm or 80 nm resolution. (Cable not supplied.)

Available as an option on new systems and as a factory fitted upgrade. (Note all quadrature systems may be subject to UK Export Control regulations.)

EC10 Gold Standard environmental compensator

EC10High accuracy environmental compensation is a must for any serious laser measurement system.

The EC10 Gold Standard compensation unit works with the ML10 Gold Standard laser system, continually monitoring the surrounding environment by collecting data from highly accurate sensors that measure the ambient air temperature, pressure and humidity. The unit then calculates the true laser wavelength to give compensated distance measurements with guaranteed accuracy.

This is essential for most linear measurement requirements. We are happy to advise on your specific applications.

Each EC10 kit includes:

  • EC10 environmental compensation unit
  • Calibration certificates (separate certificates for EC10, air temperature sensor and material temperature sensor)
  • Power cable
  • Data link cable
  • Remote air temperature sensor
  • Remote material temperature sensor

The unit can also compensate for machine thermal expansion using up to three material temperature sensors, especially important on large machines and those made of high expansion materials.

Note that the separate certificates enables you to use other sensors and EC10's with your ML10 whilst maintaining traceable measurement accuracy. With a single system certificate if you change any of the major components then you need the whole system recalibrated.
