Apprenticeship/Technical training (4 years)
During your apprenticeship you will:
- Gain real work experience.
- Obtain a higher level qualification - a National Certificate in Engineering or an Advanced Diploma in Engineering & Technology.
- Be paid.
During the four years of your training, there will be opportunities to undertake a wide range of activities such as:
- Hands-on machining experience at an outside training establishment to NVQ level II.
- To start the National Certificate or Advanced Diploma on a day release basis at college.
- Return to Renishaw to gain experience in machining and assembly. (Day release to college continues until the National Certificate or Advanced Diploma is completed.)
- Move around the company gaining experience of other disciplines (design, R&D etc.).
- Undertake company project work. (Complete a National Certificate or Advanced Diploma at college on a day release basis.)
All of the above will teach you real skills. It will also give you the chance to consider which part of the company you would like to work in when you have completed your apprenticeship.
While all this is going on, you will also be given time and support to study for further qualifications.
Different pathways:
There are two pathways apprentices can take:
- Technical Apprentices - required for Mechanical and Electronic Engineering disciplines and will be expected to study to the equivalent of a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in the chosen subject.
- Craft Apprentices - will be expected to study for an Advanced Diploma in Engineering & Technology. Successful applicants will be trained to use advanced CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) machines in a hi-tech Machine Shop environment and may be required to undertake some training at Gloucestershire Training Group (GTG).
For both Technical and Craft Apprentices, the first year of training will involve full-time attendance at an external training facility at GTG, based in Gloucester.
