Long-reach styli fitted to SP80The SP80 and SP80H quill-mounted scanning probes provide class-leading scanning performance, as well as the most flexible use of long styli for maximum productivity.

The SP80 mounts to standard vertical quills and can carry styli up to 800 mm long and 500 g mass, including star configurations. Whereas the SP80H mounts to a horizontal quill and can carry styli up to 200 mm long and 500 g mass, including star configurations.

About SP80 and SP80H

SP80The SP80 and SP80H probes both use the same design concepts. They are a passive scanning probe that uses digital scale and readheads with 20 nm resolution. These provide exceptional scanning performance, even with long styli.

Kinematic stylus changing with SH80 allows for repeatable re-location of the stylus, optimises stylus arrangements for each feature, and overcomes the need for re-qualification. Fitment of the SH80K allows the probe to be powered on and off without needing to be rehomed on power up.

For more details, refer to the SP80 Technical Paper.

SH80

SH80The SH80 is a detachable stylus holder with repeatable kinematics.

The SH80 stylus holder is magnetically attached to the SP80 probe body and is repeatably located using a set of kinematic contacts. It provides automatic stylus change capability and has an M5 stylus mount attachment. For additional flexibility, this stylus mount cube may be rotated by loosening a grub screw to allow you to position the stylus arrangment to the correct rotational position.

SH80K

The SH80K is a stylus holder with a kinematic location ball that allows you to power off the SP80 and SP80H probes and turn them back on without needing to rehome the probe providing that the SH80K is fitted before the power is switched off. The stylus ball locates on a special kinematic screw that is fitted to the probe body. SH80K is supplied as a standard item in every probe kit.

It is possible to use SH80K with earlier versions of SP80 as the kinematic screw can be retrofitted to the probe body.

SP80 stylus change racks and accessories

MRS + SCP80The SP80 and SP80H scanning probes feature kinematic stylus changing, enabling users to optimise their choice of stylus for each measurement task.

There are two types of stylus change port that are available for use with the probes.

SCP80 stylus change port

SCP80Docking port for SH80 stylus holder, mounted on modular rack system (MRS) for use with the SP80 probe.

The SCP80 has a spring loaded mechanism that is designed to ease the stylus holders away from the probe body. Using an SCP80, the SP80 pull-off force is less than 20 N.

Renishaw's modular rack system, MRS, allows users to select the width and height of rack that suits their application, whilst individual stylus change ports can be purchased to suit the number of different styli required. Racks are available in 400 mm, 600 mm and 1,000 mm lengths, with standard legs that enable styli up to 250 mm long to be accommodated. For larger machines, leg extensions can be purchased.

SCP80V stylus change port

Docking port for SH80 stylus holder, for use with the SP80H probe. Like the SCP80 the SCP80V is designed to be mounted onto an extrusion based rack however, a vertical extrusion solution is only provided by the OEM. The SCP80V has the same spring loaded mechanism to ease the SH80 away from the probe body however, due to the different mounting orientation a higher spring force is required.

This higher spring force also means that it is possible to fit the SCP80V to the MRS system alongside the SCP80 and use it to hold SH80's that have styli configurations that require the stylus to point through the back of the rack port.

SH80 Removal Tool

The SH80 removal tool is to be used when manually removing the SH80K and SH80 from both the SP80 and SP80H.

SP80 interfaces

All the interface options below are suitable for both SP80 and SP80H probe types. Interfacing both of these probes to a CMM can be achieved by:

  • Using a UCC SP80 daughtercard for direct integration to the Renishaw UCC1 or UCC2 universal CMM controllers.
  • Using a Renishaw PCI counter card (CC6) and the Renishaw interpolator unit (IU80).
  • Using interface cards designed by the machine builder, plus the Renishaw IU80 interpolator unit.
  • Using a counter card and interpolator unit designed by the machine builder.

IU80 interpolator unit

IU80Conditions probe outputs to RS422 quadrature. The IU80 is a boxed interface unit designed to condition the SP80 probe outputs into the industry-standard EIA RS422 quadrature scale output format. These signals can then be readily accepted by CMM controllers.

The IU80 can be used with the Renishaw CC6 counter card, or with counter circuitry designed by the machine builder.

SP80 UCC daughter card

A plug-in card for the UCC that operates the SP80 scanning probe.

CC6 counter card

PCI counter card for SP80 scanning probe. The CC6 counter card accepts RS422 scale output (typically from the Renishaw IU80 interpolator unit) and determines the {x,y,z} deflection of the SP80 probe. This data can then be integrated with the machine position to determine the surface location.

The CC6 counter card is suitable for PCs equipped with full size PCI expansion slots.

SP80 quill connection options

All the quill connections detailed below are suitable for use with both SP80 and SP80H probe types.

KM80 kinematic mount

KM80The KM80 mount provides a simple, repeatable attachment between the SP80 scanning probe and the CMM quill. The KM80 is attached to the CMM quill using four bolts and is designed to suit M4 or M3 quill attachment screws.

KM6080 quill mount adaptor plate

The KM6080 quill mount adaptor plate allows the SP80 to be adapted so that it can be fitted to CMMs with 60 mm square quills.

NOTE: KM6080 quill mount adaptor plate is not available as a standard product and must be quoted through Renishaw's Custom Design Service.

SM80 shank mount

For CMM quills that are equipped with shank adaptors, the SP80 can be fitted using a custom SM80 shank adaptor.

NOTE:  SM80 shank mounts are not available as standard products and must be quoted through Renishaw's Custom Design Service.

Cables
