FASTRACK™ for TONiC™ optical incremental linear encoder

Combining low SDE (Sub-Divisional Error) for smoother velocity control, ultra-low jitter (noise) for rock-solid positional stability and resolutions to 1 nm, TONiC offers impressive performance to match the high accuracy and low hysteresis of FASTRACK.

TONiC also has quick and easy installation to complement that of FASTRACK. Furthermore, ruggedness and long-term reliability is assured by filtering optics and Auto Gain Control for high immunity to dirt, scratches and greasy fingerprints that can cause other encoders to miscount.

Super compact linear encoder readhead with high-accuracy RTLC scale

Renishaw's TONiC series represents a new generation of super-compact encoders, designed for highly-dynamic precision motion systems, bringing higher accuracy, speed and greater reliability to a wide variety of demanding industry sectors.

The TONiC readhead is complemented by the new RTLC tape scale for FASTRACK, with ±5 µm/m accuracy and bi-directional optical IN-TRAC™ reference marks every 50 mm (or every 200 mm on lengths greater than 1 m). The user can select one or more by fitting self-adhesive selector magnet(s).

Superior linear motion control

For ultimate reliability and high dirt immunity, TONiC readheads incorporate third-generation filtering optics, tuned for even lower noise (jitter), further enhanced by dynamic signal processing including Auto Gain Control and Auto Offset Control. The result is low sub-divisional error (SDE) giving smoother velocity control for improved scanning performance and increased positional stability. TONiC readheads also feature a detachable analogue or digital interface in the form of a robust, convenient connector that can be located up to 10 m from the readhead.

The TONiC interface offers digital interpolation to 1 nm resolution, with clocked outputs for optimised speed performance at all resolutions for industry-standard controllers.

Dual output interface

Since September 2009, TONiC readheads have been available with a 'DOP' dual output interface that simultaneously outputs analogue and digital signals; perfect for applications such as PV manufacturing and FPD inspection machines where the analogue signals can be used by the motion control system while the synchronised digital signals can be routed to a camera timing circuit.
