RGH26The RGH26 readhead is specifically for use with Mitsubishi's MELSERVO®- J2S/J3 series of servo amplifiers. Unlike other serial communication linear encoders, the RGH26 does not require a separate interface. The electronics, interpolation and serial conversion are all contained within the same compact body of the popular RGH22. The RGH26 uses Renishaw's unique flexible 20 µm RGS20-S tape scale and offers resolutions to 0.5 µm.

RGH26 readhead features and benefits

  • Compact and robust readhead with internal interpolation offers Mitsubishi-compatible serial communication signal formats.
  • Non-contact design offers high speed, reliable operation with zero friction and zero wear
  • Incremental count takes place within the readhead, resulting in exceptional system noise immunity
  • Integral set-up LED enables easy readhead installation
  • Filtering optics guarantee excellent signal stability in conditions unsuitable for most open, optical encoders
  • The reference mark provides a repeatable home position whilst limits offer end of axis travel indication.

Compare the RGH26 with alternative optical linear readheads.

RGS20-S 20 µm pitch tape scale

Flexible scale on reel20 µm RGS20-S is manufactured from a thin flexible steel strip, which is gold plated to give high reflectivity and corrosion resistance. It may be mounted, using adhesive backing tape, to most engineering materials, including metals, ceramics, and composites.

  • Scale is supplied on a reel and can be cut to suit any axis length up to 70 m
  • RGS-S scale matches the thermal behaviour of the substrate it is affixed to, simplifying thermal compensation
  • Patented applicator tool enables fast and accurate scale installation
  • Lacquer coated scale is easy to clean and resistant to handling
  • 'Cut-to-measure' convenience ensures minimum waste and efficient inventory management
  • ±3 µm/m linearity enables high accuracy with simple compensation

A revolutionary mobile phone antenna has been developed by UK company Sarantel, based on the company's patented PowerHelix™ technology. When other conductors or the user’s hand or head are next to the antenna, performance is completely unaffected, unlike conventional antennas. The unique manufacturing process uses a special purpose machine from Finnish company Citam Assembly Automatics Oy, fitted with Renishaw linear encoders to give very high accuracy.

MYDATA is one of the world’s leading developers and suppliers of pick and place machines for the electronic industry, set apart from other manufacturers by the flexibility and fast change-over their machines offer. Its new generation of large-board machines has broken new ground, with recently integrated Renishaw linear encoders being key to the performance.

Special equipment has recently been installed at the University of Southampton by Ionoptika Ltd., for research into one of the most demanding of applications; micro-machining. Among the highly specialised suppliers involved is Renishaw, whose RG2 scale and RGH25 UHV readheads provide the crucial means of positioning for the nanometric movements required. People outside this discipline often find it hard to comprehend just how minute such work is – for example, Ionoptika’s full company logo can be etched 20 μm wide on a typical metallic screen mask.
