Free five-axis measurement seminars
World leading metrology companies Renishaw, Metris, Mitutoyo and Wenzel, and CAD/CAM developer Delcam, are holding a series of free half-day UK seminars in Autumn 2008 covering Renishaw’s revolutionary Renscan5™ five-axis measurement technology, including the award-winning REVO™ measuring head.
Each of the events will cover the operation and applications for the new system, compatible software packages, its suitability as a retrofit option, but fundamentally the huge throughput benefits that the new technology can bring to users of co-ordinate measuring machines (CMMs).

Enhanced PC-based probing software is now available to thousands more machine tool users
Renishaw's Productivity+™ Active Editor Pro, which brings easy programming and a powerful macro suite to machine tool probe users worldwide, has been significantly upgraded with the release of version 1.4. The new version of Active Editor Pro dramatically increases the number of users who can benefit from its simple programming style, by adding support for CAD models from a large variety of CAD formats, extending the range of postprocessors, and adding a new ‘constructed features’ function.

Renishaw's Chairman honoured as a 'Master of Manufacturing'
The official magazine of the US Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) has granted its respected ‘Master of Manufacturing’ accolade to Sir David McMurtry, Chairman and Chief Executive of Renishaw plc, the first time that this recognition has been given to a non-US citizen. The special July 2008 issue of ‘Manufacturing Engineering’ features an extended interview with Sir David, who is only the seventh person to receive this honour which recognises ‘an exemplary life and career in manufacturing’.

New system dramatically reduces lead times on sliding head lathes
At MACH 2008, Renishaw (stand 5140) and Citizen Machinery (stand 5260) are showcasing a revolutionary new approach to setting and controlling complex machining processes on sliding head lathes. Currently, on trial in its own machine shop, a new approach to on-machine probing is helping Renishaw benefit from dramatically reduced set times and the confidence to run ‘lights out’ on even the most sophisticated parts.

Calibration service provider works faster & smarter to create more revenue
He’s not an athlete, but Jürgen Emslander has, in one move, considerably improved his performance, to be way ahead of the rest of his field. He runs a calibration service company called Geo Tec Messtechnik, and has recently upgraded his laser calibration system from the industry standard ML10 to the new Renishaw XL-80. The new system’s portability and ease of use minimises transportation and set-up times, allowing more jobs each month.

Renishaw’s new XL-80 laser unit and XC-80 compensator
Portability, performance and ease of use describe Renishaw’s new XL-80 laser measurement system, which is significantly smaller and lighter than the established ML10 system. For analysis of high speed systems and small, high frequency movements, maximum linear speed is now 4 m/s with 1 nm resolution, and data capture operates at 50 kHz. System accuracy is ±0.5 ppm over the whole environmental operating range.

Gloucestershire-based manufacturer Renishaw plc is opening its doors to teachers and pupils as part of a scheme designed to develop working relationships between engineering companies and schools. The Education Business Partnerships (EBP) initiative aims to highlight the many varied career opportunities available within manufacturing industry and to dispel negative industry stereotypes.

A manufacturing company with headquarters in Wotton-under-Edge has been recognised as the county’s largest business employer in the 2008 listing of Gloucestershire’s Top 100 Businesses. World leading measurement company Renishaw plc now employs over 1,400 people at its sites in Wotton, Woodchester and Stonehouse, and in the annual list produced by Gloucestershire Media was also positioned 11th by sales turnover, increasing worldwide sales to £180.9 million.

New pocket guide for co-ordinate measuring machine probes includes 5-axis measurement system
Renishaw offers a wide range of sensing technologies and accessories for co-ordinate measuring machines (CMMs), from manually operated touch-trigger probes, through to fully automated stylus changing systems and the latest five-axis scanning technologies.
The company’s new pocket-sized CMM technology guide is a useful reference source for companies specifying new machines or considering upgrades and retrofits, and is suitable for both experienced users and those new to sensor technologies for CMMs.

Renishaw opens new Taiwanese subsidiary office
World leading measurement company Renishaw has opened a trading office in Taichung to support its strong growth in the Taiwanese market. The new subsidiary company, Renishaw (Taiwan) Inc, replaces the former representative office which was set-up in the year 2000, and will be able to offer enhanced commercial and technical support to customers throughout Taiwanese industry, whether machine builders, end-users, or existing distributors for Renishaw’s wide range of market leading metrology products.

Renishaw hosts senior politicians at MACH 2008
Renishaw had a very busy time at the recent MACH 2008 trade show, the UK’s largest show for manufacturing industry, held at the NEC, Birmingham. As well as receiving almost 500 enquiries for its world-leading range of precision measurement equipment, the Gloucestershire-based engineering company also hosted two visits from leading Labour and Conservative politicians.

Renishaw wins two prestigious awards at leading international event
At the prestigious MWP Awards Dinner held in Birmingham, UK, on 22nd April, Renishaw plc was honoured with two awards for product excellence. The awards, which are often referred to as the UK metalworking industry’s ‘Oscars’, were achieved against strong competition, with entry open to any worldwide manufacturer with a UK representative. Winners were selected by a panel of eleven independent judges allied to manufacturing industry.

Flexible, efficient, and “totally trustworthy” part set-up taken to a new level with probing routines programmed in a CAM environment - Sikorsky supplier Alp Aviation shows how to do it. One of the most important developments recently is the introduction of Renishaw’s Productivity+™ software, enabling Alp to create and test routines in a CAM environment, for the Renishaw part-setting probes fitted to all 50 of their machining centres.
