Level 6 Degree Apprenticeships

Below you will see a little more detail about the Level 6, Degree Apprenticeships we offer at Renishaw.

Level 6 Software Engineering (Gloucestershire)

This structured Degree Apprenticeship will give successful candidates the opportunity to study for a degree whilst working on exciting and challenging work placements.

What will I do?

In year 1 you attend the software apprentice training programme where you will be trained by Software Engineers who are experts in their fields. The training is designed to allow you to continually build on the skills that are being taught. This ranges from core programming skills, general software design techniques (such as object-oriented programming and design methodologies), to project management, business analysis and formalised software development processes, including the Agile process. Years 2 to 4 will be dedicated to placements within software development groups throughout Renishaw which allow you to work on real projects and products, with the aim of entering a specialist field within the company.

What qualifications will I gain?

You will study towards a BSc in Digital and Technology Solutions via blended learning with the University of Exeter.

What are the entry requirements?

Either three A levels at AAB, preferably with at least one in either Maths, Physics or Computer Science or other STEM subject
OR a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at DDD, in a Computer Science related subject
Other qualifications of a similar level can be considered. We would encourage applicants with non-standard qualifications to contact us to discuss their eligibility
Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate practical exposure to programming

Level 6 Mechanical Engineer (Gloucestershire)

This structured Degree Apprenticeship will give successful candidates the opportunity to study for a BEng (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering whilst working on exciting and stimulating work placements.

What will I do?

In Year 1, your time will be split between studying for a degree and working within Renishaw, gaining valuable experience within a manufacturing and assembly environment. Your training during this first year will give you a broad level of exposure to our manufacturing and assembling process which will give you fundamental practical knowledge and skills required for your apprenticeship. Years 2 and 3 will include dedicated placements within the mechanical engineering groups across Renishaw, allowing you to work on real projects and products. Studying continues with the degree on a part time basis, allowing your theoretical knowledge to continue to grow. In years 4 and 5 you will be placed within a team allowing you to specialise in a specific field of your knowledge within the company, finally completing your studies with a BEng and taking up an appointment within Renishaw.

What qualifications will I gain?

You will study towards a BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, accredited by the University of the West of England (UWE). The programme takes 5 years.

What are the entry requirements?

Either three A-Levels at BBB, including Maths (at grade B or higher), one other science subject and one other STEM subject,
OR a Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship at Distinction level.
Other qualifications will be considered if they meet the points level requirement.
Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate practical exposure to mechanical engineering.

Level 6 Manufacturing Engineering (Gloucestershire)

This structured Degree Apprenticeship will give successful candidates the opportunity to study for a BEng (Hons) degree in Manufacturing Engineering whilst working on exciting and challenging work placements.

What will I do?

In Year 1, your time will be split between studying for a degree and working within Renishaw, gaining valuable experience within a manufacturing and assembly environment. Your training during this first year will give you a broad level of exposure to our manufacturing and assembling process which will give you fundamental practical knowledge and skills required for your apprenticeship. Years 2 to 4 will include dedicated placements within the technical manufacturing engineering groups within the manufacturing services division, allowing you to work on real projects and products (including activities such as process support, process design / development, systems integration, manufacturing operations, project engineering, and automation). Studying continues with the degree on a part time basis, allowing your theoretical knowledge to continue to grow. In year 5 you will be placed within a team allowing you to specialise in a specific field of your knowledge within the company, finally completing your studies with a BEng and taking up an appointment within Renishaw.

What qualifications will I gain?

You will study towards a BEng (Hons) in Manufacturing Engineering, accredited by the University of the West of England (UWE). The programme takes 5 years.

Three A-Levels at BBB, or the equivalent of 120 UCAS points, including Maths (at grade B or higher), one other science subject and one other STEM subject,
OR a Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship at Distinction level.
Other qualifications will be considered if they meet the points level requirement.
Preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate practical exposure to mechanical engineering.

Level 6 Manufacturing Engineering (Miskin)

This structured Degree Apprenticeship will give successful candidates the opportunity to study for a BEng (Hons) degree in Integrated Engineering whilst working on exciting and challenging work placements.

What will I do?

In Year 1, your time will be split between studying for a degree and working within Renishaw, gaining valuable experience within a manufacturing and assembly environment. Your training during this first year will give you a broad level of exposure to our manufacturing and assembling process which will give you fundamental practical knowledge and skills required for your apprenticeship. Years 2 to 4 will include dedicated placements within the technical manufacturing engineering groups within the manufacturing services division, allowing you to work on real projects and products (including activities such as process support, process design / development, systems integration, manufacturing operations, project engineering, and automation). Studying continues with the degree on a part time basis, allowing your theoretical knowledge to continue to grow. In year 5 you will be placed within a team allowing you to specialise in a specific field of your knowledge within the company, finally completing your studies with a BEng and taking up an appointment within Renishaw.

What qualifications will I gain?

You will study towards a BEng Integrated Engineering via blended learning with Gower college, Swansea and the Cardiff University School of Engineering. The programme takes 5 years.

What are the entry requirements?

Either three A levels at CCC, one in should be Maths, and others in a STEM related subject OR a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at MMM, in an engineering related subject.

Level 6 Embedded Electronic Engineering Apprenticeship (Gloucestershire)

This is a structured Degree Apprenticeship will give successful candidates the opportunity to study for a degree whilst working on exciting and challenging work placements within Renishaw.

What will I do?

In Year 1, your time will be split between studying for a degree and working within Renishaw, gaining valuable experience and allowing you to apply your theoretical knowledge to practical projects. During this period, you will receive in-house training to give you the fundamental knowledge and skills required for your apprenticeship, building on the skills that are being taught which range from electronic schematic design, printed circuit board (PCB) layout, structured programming for embedded systems (software and firmware), mathematical modelling, design and testing methodology. Years 2 and 3 will include dedicated placements within the electronics groups in various divisions across Renishaw, allowing you to work on real projects and products. Studying continues with the degree on a part time basis, allowing your theoretical knowledge to continue to grow. Years 4 and 5 will allow you to begin specialising and develop your skills in a specific field of your knowledge within the company, finally in Year 5 finishing your studies with a BEng (Hons), completing your apprenticeship through an End Point Assessment (EPA) and taking up an appointment within a Renishaw division.

What qualifications will I gain?

You will study towards a BEng (Hons) in Electronic and Computer Engineering, accredited by the University of the West of England (UWE) on a day release scheme. The course is initially delivered by Gloucester College with the final 2 years delivered directly by UWE. The degree course builds up from foundations to the final BEng (Hons) degree and utilises class based learning and practical laboratory activities delivered at both Gloucester College and UWE. This allows each apprentice to develop their knowledge year on year, gaining accredited qualifications to achieve milestones for the apprenticeship. There will be regular reviews with the education teams from Gloucester College and UWE, together with support from Renishaw to ensure both academic and apprenticeship qualifications are successfully met.

What are the entry requirements?

Three A levels which must include Maths and can include two of the following subjects: Computing/Computer Science; Design and Technology; Electronics; Engineering; ICT; Further Maths.
Applicants must have the minimum of 120 UCAS points (in the new tariff system) which equates to BBB. Applicants must have at least a C in Maths, although a B is preferred. Please provide predicted grades if you are still studying.
Other qualifications will be considered if they meet the points level requirement.
