Substrate mastered scale on a CMM
February 2019
The thermal behaviour of encoder scale is an important consideration when selecting any encoder system. Renishaw's scales are effectively either thermally independent of the substrate (floating) or thermally dependant on the substrate (mastered); depending on the scale thickness / material and mounting method. The thermal behaviour of mastered scale offers a variety of benefits across numerous measurement applications.
This article presents an example position encoder application with a co-ordinate measuring machine (CMM) where mastered scale might be preferred.
