Engineering Apprenticeship - Miskin L3

This Level 3 engineering apprenticeship with Renishaw is an opportunity for you to learn and develop both engineering and manufacturing skills through a combination of on-the-job learning and studying for nationally recognised qualifications.

Applications for the 2020 intake are now closed.

As a company that manufactures the products it designs, our Manufacturing Services Division (MSD) represents about half of our business. Due to this, we need a dedicated manufacturing apprenticeship programme that makes sure that we have a talent pool to meet the current and future demands of the division.

What will I do as a Manufacturing Apprentice?

This is a four-year commitment during which you will learn and develop engineering skills and knowledge through onsite work placements, whilst also studying for nationally recognised qualifications. You will learn a range of skills including soldering, assembly of products, machining, maintenance of equipment. You will study for an EAL Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Engineering Technologies.

The first year of this Advanced Apprenticeship is based in full time education at Bridgend College where you learn practical and theoretical engineering knowledge in a range of subjects.

In the second and third years, you will rotate around the division in placements, spending time in production, machine shop and maintenance. You will be required to work shift patterns as part of some of these placements. You also attend college on a day release basis and work towards an NVQ qualification in work.

On successful completion of the EAL Level 3 in the fourth year, there is the opportunity to progress to an HNC in electrical or mechanical engineering.

Once you transfer off the programme, you will move into the manufacturing division where you will specialise and continue to apply and develop new learning and skills.

Throughout the apprenticeship, you will meet regularly with our apprentice team to assess ongoing performance.

The roles you will transfer into at the end of the scheme are:

• CNC Setter/Operator
• Maintenance Technician
• Production Technician

Who is this apprenticeship for?

Production and manufacturing areas can be challenging, fast-paced and highly demanding, where deadlines must be met and work and products are produced to a high standard. This pathway will appeal to people who work well under pressure and are flexible enough to deal with the changing demands on production and production techniques.

What qualifications do you need?

GCSEs at Grade C including Maths, English, Science and other relevant subjects (such as Engineering or Product Design). What experience should you have?

You should be able to show us that you are a practical person and have worked on projects either at school or at home that demonstrate this.
Relevant work experience completed through school or college would be beneficial, although is not essential.
