Renishaw exhibiting at BioWales 2017

From the 7th to 8th March Renishaw will be exhibiting at the BioWales 2017 Life Sciences conference and exhibition held at the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff, UK. Collaboration is a key part of the healthcare ethos in Wales and the Renishaw stand will highlight key collaborations, including how forward planning can potentially help surgical teams reduce time spent in surgery through the use of craniomaxillofacial patient specific implants (PSIs).

Renishaw is also pleased to be an academic industrial partner of the BRAIN (Brain Repair and Intracranial Neurotherapeutics) unit which is developing clinical systems for the direct delivery of therapies to the human brain. This unit is a Health and Care Research Wales funded Biomedical Research Unit and aims to establish itself as a leading UK centre for brain repair. At BioWales 2017, Renishaw will be showcasing its range of neurosurgical products that are being used within this partnership, including the company's neuromate robot for stereotactic neurosurgery.

The company's Raman spectroscopy systems are also being successfully applied to a wide range of biological research applications, including bioprocessing, cancer diagnostics, regeneration medicine, theranostics and microbiology. Renishaw's Raman instruments from its research grade inVia to the new benchtop RA802 exploit the Raman effect to identify and characterise biological samples, providing chemical, spatial and structural information on multiple molecules, without labelling. This non-contacting, non-destructive analytical technique requires minimal sample preparation, making it ideal for live cell analysis and whole tissue section imaging; it is possible to distinguish cell types and resolve subcellular structures without altering their biochemistry.

Ed Littlewood, Marketing Manager of Renishaw's Medical and Dental Products Division will present to the Conference on 8th March about Renishaw's Healthcare Centre of Excellence at its Miskin site, located close to Cardiff. The Centre, which was formally opened on 29th September 2016 by The Rt Hon Carwyn Jones AM, First Minister of Wales, provides a facility for the manufacture of custom medical devices, as well as education and training facilities for the life sciences community.
